A Better Work Life Balance

These days we’re often over-stressed due to the busy, fast paced lives we lead. There’s always demands on our time. It’s important, therefore, to maintain a good work life balance. Although, this is often talked about and we know its importance, many of us are still neglecting a good balance and letting work take over. Here are our top tips to start addressing a better equilibrium:

1. Leave work at work

Turn emails off on your phone (or never activate them in the first place), leave the laptop at work and enjoy time with your family and friends.

2. Join a sports club

It’s a good way to unwind after a stressful day and also a good way to forge strong social bonds.

3. Make sure you take your annual leave

These days some people feel guilty about taking annual leave, fearing that they may be oestracized by colleagues or bosses. This is nonsense, of course. But, sometimes it can feel like you’re letting the team down by being away. Good communication and making sure your assignments are finished before going away can make sure you truly relax whilst on vacation.

Struggling with back pain?

For a number of years I have struggled with lower back pain. I have tried all sorts of things to remedy this, from sleeping on harder mattress to chiropractors doing exercises with a roller. This latter one, has proved the most beneficial to me. I have used both the typical rollers you get at the gym and also a massage ball. The massage ball is great because you can take it anywhere with you, so it makes it good for sticking to a routine when traveling. The yoga roller, however, is less practical for traveling but depending on the size you buy can still be done.

The best product I’ve found is called the shiatsu massage ball, which you can easily find by doing a Google search. I bought one in Japan, and I have to say they work a treat and getting into those tight muscle areas and releasing them. They’re perfect for traveling as well.

Maintatining Mindfullness In Today’s Modern Society

Mindfulness has become a bit of a key phrases in recent times. Being present in the moment, helps us achieve clarity and helps calm the mind. From the very moment we wake up we are bombarded by a sensory overload. There’s many stresses and strains we face on a daily basis. By spending just 30 minutes a day being mindful, it can help improve our mental well being, reduce stress levels and anxieties.

Do you need to practice meditation to be mindful.

It’s a common misconception that you need to meditate to be mindful. This is not strictly true. Although, menditation helps for mindfullness it’s not always necessary. How an indivdual practices mindfulness it completely their choice. It doesn’t always have to take place in a quite studio free from distractions. You can practice on the way to work, or in the gym. Taking 30 mins a day for mindfulness will have a great impact, the key is getting into a routine habit of practicing and sticking to it!

There’s no disputing that alternative health practices are growing fast, for one main reason, they work.
